Why We Built A Mobile Coaching App

Why was it so important to build a coaching app? Coach Messenger makes it easy to manage online coaching relationships on-the-go.

[0:25] - A full-time hire to lead the coaching app development charge, 6-months of dedicated development and testing across the team, ongoing updates and support going forward… and it was all worth it if we can make building engagement with clients easier for practitioners.

[1:41] - A few little-known tidbits about the Nudge Founders, and how Mac and I became a bit obsessed with the art of digital engagement (plus a few of the books we both read on habit creation and behavior change).

  1. "Switch" by Chip and Dan Heath

  2. "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg

  3. "Nudge" by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein

  4. "Stick With It" by Sean Young

[4:10] - According to psychologist Daniel Kahneman in his book "Thinking Fast and Slow," there are two basic cognitive processes we have and use. System One Thinking - the fast thinking system - includes in-the-moment decisions and intuitive reactions. And System Two Thinking - the critical thinking and deeper analysis thinking. The need for a mobile coaching app comes mostly from clients (consumers) System One Thinking. When you’re talking about online experiences or mobile apps, consumers (your clients) have come to expect to get pretty immediate responses.

[5:40] - How can we learn from all of this to maximize engagement with clients? How do clients use online and mobile services, and when do they expect instant gratification? What does this mean for your business? Your coaching programs?

[6:30] - How the digital environment is different and why you should understand the importance of immediacy.

It is incumbent on you as a service provider to set very clear [and reasonable] expectations for how you will engage with your client up front.

[11:07] - The way Coach Messenger app complements the web version of Nudge Coach, our online coaching platform, makes it so that you are always able to go above and beyond for any of your clients and show them that you are present with them and there for them in their time of need.

[12:30] - The importance of setting appropriate expectations with clients up front, and thereby managing expectations for yourself. It’s easier to go above and beyond with reasonable expectations. Customer Satisfaction is often equal to the amount the actual experience exceeds the expectations going in.

Client satisfaction is a function of 2 things... the expectations a client has... and how that stacks up against their actual experience [the service they receive].
— Phil Beene

[15:15] Immediacy is a powerful principle of engagement. THIS is why Nudge has put so much time and effort behind our coaching app - Coach Messenger - and how this type of engagement can be so beneficial to help you get clients results, keep clients longer and grow your business.

Immediacy is a core principle of engagement.
