Syncing data that’s being collected by our clients’ phones or wearables can make it easier to raise accountability around things like activity levels and sleep. But do the applications of syncing health data reach farther?
This week we’re digging into the many uses of having clients sync health data like steps, activity and sleep from Apple Health, Fitbit, and more to make accountability easier, and also to give you a fuller, more holistic picture of what’s going on in their lives.
Reflection
While having clients sync data isn’t relevant to every program, it has its benefits.
At its core, a great client experience is built upon a mutually beneficial exchange of information. You deliver valuable content and guidance to clients. They respond with honest input on their behaviors, experiences and feelings along their journey.
Syncing health data that’s automatically collected by a phone or wearable removes the daily friction from that ongoing exchange, especially for a client. Tracking steps or sleep manually each day eventually becomes a burden. Not every client will do it. Syncing once with Apple Health app and letting the data flow as needed is a different proposition entirely.
You just add a Syncable Health tracker to a Card and assign it. The client is prompted the next time they open the app to Sync any app or device they use. It’s that simple.
Synced health data isn’t only useful to health-focused programs.
For example, an executive coaching program can benefit from a holistic view of the individual trying to improve their performance. Sam didn’t feel sharp at the beginning of the week? An answer might be found in the sleep data on her Fitbit. You get the picture.
So what are the best practices for effectively using syncing in your program?
1 - Be up-front and clear about why you’re asking them to sync. Why is getting this data going to help you help them reach their goals?
Speaking of goals, be clear about your expectations. If there’s a goal or target, make it clear and explain why. If it’s a personalized program, co-create that goal with the client.
2 - Help clients understand that every system is built differently, so data flows in different ways. The safest move is to set expectations up front that it could take up to 24 hours for data to sync into the app.
Best to ensure they aren’t expecting immediacy every time. And if they have questions about syncing they can always tap Settings > Help in the app to submit a ticket. This will keep those more technical syncing questions off your plate so you can focus on changing lives and such 😎.
That’s all for now.
