Effective Health Coaches Are Effective Teachers

As health coaches, we spend a good portion of our time in some sort of teaching capacity.

Whether we are leading a workshop or teaching our clients nutritional concepts, being an effective teacher is an important part of what we do.

With over 15 years of experience in corporate Learning and Development, I’m going to share a few techniques with you that will ensure you are teaching your target audience in a manner that is engaging, insightful and maybe even life-changing.

Most all of us have many, many memories sitting in a classroom as a child.  If we think about it, we can easily recollect different teachers, classmates, homework assignments, quizzes and tests.

As adults, chances are, you have found yourself in other classroom settings.   Whether you went back to school to pursue some sort of degree or certification, or you enrolled in a class purely out of self-interest … most of us also have classroom memories as adults.

You likely have noticed that as an adult, you are a different type of student.  Are you more engaged?  Do you see more relevance in the subject matter?  Do you find it more enjoyable?  Do you find yourself asking more questions than you did as a child?

If you had to go back to the teaching styles of your childhood, you would end up pretty frustrated.  As a child, we have different expectations of our teachers – we are looking for them to tell us the information…to tell us what we need to know.

As adults we are different students and therefore have different expectations of our teachers.   We need our teachers to create space for us to think through the content being discussed, we want to understand its relevance to our lives, we want to reach conclusions on our own, we want to share our own personal experiences and insights.

These are just a few of the principles that govern us as adult students, as adult learners.

In this webinar, I’ll share these principles with you and offer specific and practical ways for you to implement them in your workshops and client interactions.

By accommodating the needs of your adult learners, you will channel your inner teacher and make the most out of your client interactions.  Build your business and reputation by making your teaching moments meaningful, memorable and impactful.

We will leave ample time for questions so bring your most challenging teaching moments for us to discuss!
