Managing time zones

How often do you consider the delivery time (from days, down to minutes) to be crucial when delivering your programs to your clients? A fundamental part of creating engagement in the Nudge platform is knowing when your clients are receiving a Card or a message. Being aware of the timing of your delivery is way more important than you think.

This week, we discuss the importance of time when delivering Cards by managing clients in other time zones while enhancing maximum engagement.

What to remember about working with clients in different time zones

There are many times when you’ll want to schedule cards, sequences, and messages ahead of time rather than on the fly. In order to make sure your clients receive these things, let’s take a look at how time zones impact the way we assign our programming.

This is especially important for coaches in the Western Hemisphere working with clients in the Eastern Hemisphere, but it’s still important to keep in mind even if your clients are just one or two time zones away.

It may be a different day for your client in which case assigning something for “today” would prevent them from receiving that card or message. For example, if it’s 3pm on January 4th in Chicago, it is already January 5th in Hong Kong.

Remember, Nudge send scheduled Messages and Cards at the time you select *based on your client’s timezone, not yours. This is so you can more easily fit your communication into your clients’ lives based on how they live them.

So in the scenario above, the coach in Chicago should make sure to schedule their Card or Message for on or after January 5th to ensure their client receives it as expected.

Here are a few frequently asked questions about time zones

Q: When do cards hit a client’s feed?

A: Just after Midnight in the client’s timezone.

Q: If I schedule a push notification for 9:30am, will the card not get delivered until then?

A: If a card is set to be delivered on January 1st with a push notification reminder set for 9:30 AM, the card will show up in the client’s feed just after Midnight on the 1st and the push notification will be delivered at 9:30 AM on the 1st (both with respect to the client’s own timezone).

Q: By what time does a card, notification or message have to be assigned for client’s anywhere in the world to receive it?

A: Before that time in the client’s time zone. To be safe, assign these things at least 24 hours out. This is especially important if you are a coach in the Western Hemisphere working with clients in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Q: If I assign a card accidentally for a date that has already passed for my client, will they still receive it.

A: No. If you assign a card on a date that has passed already for a client, they would not receive the card (it would not be backdated, etc). If the card is set to repeat, however, they would receive the card the next time it was scheduled to be delivered.
