How to Make Your Cards Look More Interesting

Quick Notes

As we discussed during this recent episode of Office Hours on How to Get Leads Excited About Your Program, novelty itself is a powerful tool for engaging people over time. The Novelty Effect is hardwired into our brains in various ways, but the bottom line for you is that keeping things fresh and visually interesting isn’t just window-dressing - it can have a meaningful impact on engagement.

Nudge has a super-dynamic content delivery system, IF you take advantage of all the features and design options at your fingertips.

If you have any Cards lying around in your Card Library with big blocks of plain text, or just have a hunch you can make things quite a bit more visually interesting with a little effort, then let’s do it by simply taking advantage of all the Card design elements.

Nudge Card Design Elements

Bullets break up blocks of text so it’s easier to read. Obviously they help with lists, but even just breaking up ideas with a little spacing can give clients a better chance to absorb or act upon multiple pieces of information instead of glossing over it.

The Quote element can be used for more than quotes. The style puts a left justified color bar next to the text which makes it visually distinctive. It’s great for any callout that you want to draw attention to, your favorite motivation quotes included.

And while Divider elements may seem basic, they actually serve an important function, especially in content-heavy Cards. Adding a divider to separate out a call-to-action or important additional note at the end of a Card draws eyes down, EVEN IF THEY ARE SKIMMING an earlier section that may have been longer. Dividers make it more likely they will at least take note of the separation and implied importance of what’s below.

For your videos, make sure you’re taking advantage of the Vimeo Embed and YouTube integrations so you’re videos look and feel ‘native’ to your clients. This is a better experience than just linking out using a Button or text link.

And finally, freshen up your Card Titles to increase Open Rates. Even if you’re concerned you aren’t the most clever copywriter, I have some quick advice.

  1. Try rephrasing come of your Card Titles as Questions. Our data shows that increases average open rate by 8-9%.

  2. Try more descriptive Card Titles, especially for any Cards you have with 1-3 word titles. Cards with at least 21-30 characters had the highest open rate, and short lists of what’s covered in the Cards were very effective.

So Here’s Your Homework

Take an hour today and jazz up your Cards so they’re more visually interesting. As you see opportunities to take advantage of different Card elements like the Bullets element, Quote element, or Divider, do it! Rephrase the Title element of a few Cards from a statement to a Question to increase open rates.

You don’t always get such a clear assignment that will increase engagement in your programs 10% or more. Take advantage :)
